The first point is that Kismet USED to be a "hot singles spot" - mostly attracting the cigarette-pack-under-the-t-shirt-sleeve crowd from Long Island. Over the past several years, the mix has changed dramatically with several young families and couples in their 30's and 40's. I would not say that Kismet is particularly "singles-oriented" any more.
The town is fairly casual and laid back as compared to, say, Saltaire or Seaview. Group rentals make up a fairly large percentage of Kismet's summer community, although the percentage of year-round residents and summer homeowners has been growing steadily over the past several years.
Overall it's a quieter crowd although the three restaurants still attract a fair share of young singles on Saturday nights. Police presence (Suffolk County) is up and there is therefore much less public drunkenness than what we saw, say, 4-5 years ago.
In addition to the three restaurants, there is a market run by Paul Whitney, a small liquor store, a children's playground (getting new equipment sometime in the next few weeks) and tennis courts.
The westernmost town on FI, Kismet is about 2/3 mile from the FI Lighthouse Visitor's Center.
